HIKLAN, David G. David G. Hiklan, also known as Dave to his friends and family, passed away at the age of 74 in Spokane, WA on November 27, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital from cancer. He was born on October 4, 1938 in Aberdeen, WA to George Michael Hiklan and Marian Frances Meeker. After graduating from Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA in 1956 he joined the Navy and served as a Corpsman until 1960. He went on to earn his Masters in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) from Eastern Washington University in 1972. He was a dedicated Democrat and believed that everyone should be involved and serve their community. He devoted his life to helping others, especially people who faced obstacles of poverty and addiction, first as director and then Admin I/Project Director of Head Start 1973-1978; Program Specialist for Grant County Community Action Council, Inc. 1978-1983, and then owner of the Saranac Apartments and D.G. Hiklan Enterprises. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca A. Androes and Meschell M. Hiklan; and three grandchildren, James N. Androes, Eric B. Androes and Alexander J. Rivas. He will be tremendously missed by all friends and family. His love, advice, listening ear, shoulder to lean on, hugs, cheers, laughter and can-do spirit will live on in our hearts and memories. Onward and upward Dad. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2012, 3pm at SPOKANE CREMATION & FUNERAL SERVICE, 2832 N. RUBY ST., SPOKANE, WA, 324-9375.
