Hertha Edna Ziemann was born on March 6, 1917 in Stanton, North Dakota, to John and Katharina Ziemann. Hertha died on June 8, 2016 in Spokane, Washington. She was the fifth child in a family of eight. Hertha grew up in Stanton, ND on a large farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She attended nursing school in Minnesota, but before completing this course she fell in love and married, Gust Jassman in 1938. They moved to Chewelah, WA in the early 1940s with their young son, Dalton. Gust went to work for Northwest Magnesite. As the years went by, they had three more sons, Gordon, Eugene and Larry. Gust died in 1953 from throat cancer. Hertha found employment in Chewelah with Safeway as a meat wrapper and somehow kept her young family together. She moved briefly to Lodi, CA to help care for her parents in 1957. She returned to Washington in 1958 and continued to work for Safeway in Spokane until 1964 when she again moved to Lodi, CA. It was at this time that she met and married Carl Treude in 1965. Carl and Hertha returned to Spokane in the late 70s where they resided for the next 22 years. Hertha spent fourteen years at The Academy Retirement Home and the last two years of her life at Avalon Care Center in Spokane. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gust and Carl; son, Gene Jassman; brothers, Wilmer, Edwin and Erhart; sisters, Angelina, Ida and Erna. She is survived by one sister, Irene Olmstead of Minot, ND; sons, Dalton (Karen) Jassman, Gordon (Connie) Jassman, Larry Jassman all of Spokane; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Jassman of Boise, ID; five grandchildren, Randy (Raye-Lynn) Jassman of Bellevue, Erik Jassman of Liberty Lake, Kristi (Mike) Garrahan of Newman Lake, Lori (Gary) Schauer of Redmond, WA, Michelle (David) Read of Oak Harbor, WA; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton and Devin Jassman, Danyelle (Mike) Wayne, Brittany (Matt) Kish, Hayley Garrahan, Rachel and Matthew Schauer, Alex and Aaron Read; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kyler Wayne and Maci Kish; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by stepchildren, Marlene (Bob) Bietz of Lodi, CA and Garth (Darleen) Treude of Scottsdale, AZ and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane, WA.
