In the early 80s, as I was trying to get a line apprenticeship. Working as a groundman and starting a young family. I had just found out I got an apprenticeship, Jack took me aside and gave me a full set of climbing gear. A lineman by the name of Bill Smith had died in a plane wreck come home from a fishing trip in Alaska. His family wanted Jack to give that climbing gear to a young man that could put it to good use. I was that young man. I retired after 36 years with wwp/avista in 2017. 25yrs was using that gear. The fact that Jack picked me has always stuck with me. I will always remember him for that act of kindness. I have that climbing gear hanging on my shop wall with many fond memories. I am sorry for your loss and grateful to have worked under his guidance. Gene Dickenson.
