Joshua BARRON Obituary

BARRON, Joshua Edward Corporal Joshua Edward Barron passed away on May 17th, 2015, in Waimanalo, HI, from injuries sustained while aboard a MV-22B Osprey after it made a hard landing at Marine Corps Training area Bellows at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Joshua touched so many lives and was loved by all. His handsome smile and contagious laugh could easily turn your worst day into your best day. Josh would always find the positive in any given situation. He was a beloved son, devoted brother, caring grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Josh was born on July 23rd, 1990 in Spokane, WA. Josh graduated from University High School in 2009. He went on to earn his Associate Arts degree at Spokane Community College. Josh grew up playing hockey, a passion he shared with his brother. He spent and many hours fiercely loving and protecting his sister. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking with his family and friends. In 2011 Josh proudly joined the Marine Corps because he "wanted to do something bigger than himself." Corporal Barron enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 6th, 2011, and on December 5th, 2011 entered recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, followed by Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion of his entry level training, Corporal Barron attended Aviation A & C School in Pensacola, Florida. After completion, he attended the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training where he trained as a 6176, Tiltrotor Crew Chief. He was then assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. On July 7th, 2013, Corporal Barron reported for duty with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced) in Miramar, California, where he deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit on May 11th, 2015. He was promoted to Corporal, Meritorious, Posthumously, on May 20th, 2015. Corporal Barron's awards include the National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Josh was a natural born protector. Above all Josh had a deeply profound love for his family and will forever be our hero. He leaves behind his parents, John and Michele Barron, his brother Jacob Barron and his sister Jessica Barron. He also leaves behind his grandparents, Edward and Gwen Barron, Gary and Linda Winfrey, Michael and Sandy Howard, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also an amazing group of hometown friends and his Marine family/brothers for whom we will always be grateful for. We would like to thank GySgt Michael Barrera, you have been a true blessing to our family. We would also like to thank our family and friends for your love and support. "I am doing this because I love you all and you're worth it. Semper Fi!" Josh A funeral service honoring Corporal Joshua Barron's life and service will be announced in an obituary at a later date.

So many of us here in San Diego are deeply grieving the tragedy of losing Josh. He was so dearly loved by all of us who knew him. Our broken hearts send out our deepest sympathy to his entire family and to everyone who loved Josh. We will never forgot this very special young man. Josh was so dear to our hearts that we will forever share your unbearable sadness. Josh, you will always be our hero and you will be forever missed~ more than words can say. And until we join Josh, I take comfort in knowing that my parents, Col. Robert & Mary Lou Best~ have been there for Josh with open arms and they are loving & caring for Josh like a son. And I pray that thought can bring comfort to Josh's grieving parents, grandparents and his entire family. We will always feel so very grateful and so deeply honored to have been blessed to have known you and loved you, sweet, precious Josh... You will never be forgotten.

Words can not express the deep gratitude I have for your son, he was a great friend to my daughter Danielle when she made the trip to California for the Marine ball. I lost my brother 29 years ago in a Marine training operation over the Norwegian Sea and the pride I have held all those years will certainly hold true for your family. The loss of a child, brother, grandson, nephew is never ever easy but he is up with his maker and hopefully having a sit down with my brother~ Semper Fi
