HANSEN, Lois
1943 - 2016
Lois Marlene Hansen passed on the morning of December 14th, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was 73 and living in her Spokane Valley home where she had resided for over 50 years.
Lois was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and her parents were Lois Elwilda Hansen and Arthur Ingwald Hansen. She married Michael Fagan early in her life and had two boys with him and then later in life she married Calvin Cooney whom she had known since high school. Lois graduated from Central Valley High School in 1961 and after briefly attending Washington State University returned to Spokane Valley to raise a family. Lois was a dedicated and loving mother and her children and grandchildren always remained a priority in her life.
Traveling was one of her passions and she went to Europe six times and was always reliving those trips by telling stories about her adventures. She also enjoyed hiking and backpacking in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada and locally she loved hiking in the Dishman Hills and Liberty Lake Park. Her passion for gardening was well known, during the summer she spent more time outside planting, pruning and fixing her yard than she did inside. Being able to relax in her back yard during the spring and summer months was always a special treat. Her laugh and sense of humor always brought more life to any party or gathering. It was easy to know when Lois was nearby, all you had to do was follow the laughter.
Lois leaves behind two sons, Rory and Jamie Fagan; one brother, Dave Hansen; two grandchildren, Erik and Malina Fagan; four nephews, Charles Halley, Mike Halley, Brian Halley, Aaron Hansen and one niece, Jennifer Jensen. Lois was predeceased by her husband Calvin Cooney and sister Barbara Green both of whom were a very important part of her life.
The family will be having a memorial in her back yard on Saturday, May 6th from 1pm to 4pm, all who knew her are encouraged to attend and come together to share stories about her life to say good bye to a woman who truly enriched the lives of those around her. Email
