Murray DICK Obituary
December 31, 1943 - December 23, 2024
Spokane - Murray "Mick" James Dick was born December 31, 1943, to Catherine and Chester in Los Angeles, CA. One of Murray's favorite stories growing up was of waking up each morning at 4 a.m. to complete his paper route before school. Murray would finish his route then stop by the donut shop, where the owner always had two cake donuts and a black coffee waiting for him for free. This story epitomized Murray perfectly; a hardworking, no nonsense, simple person whom people loved to have around.
Murray stayed in LA until he was 18 years old, when he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed in Yokohama, Japan, for the next four years of service. Murray enjoyed his time in Japan and spoke fondly about it. Upon leaving the military, Murray returned to LA and sold women's shoes at the Broadway department store.
Murray took a management opportunity with Broadway which required a move to Las Vegas, NV. It was in Las Vegas that Murray was introduced to his wife, Gertrude "Trudy" by his neighbor, and Trudy's good friend, Sharon. Murray and Trudy dated briefly and were married December 10, 1966. Shortly after, Murray left Broadway and began a long career with the U.S. Post Office. Starting as a mail carrier, Murray worked his way up the ranks and after nearly a 29-year career, retired as a Post Office supervisor in 1992. Upon retirement, Murray stayed busy, owning and operating a local landscaping company while enjoying time with family and friends.
After living 55 years in Las Vegas, Murray and Trudy decided to take one last great adventure and in August of 2021, moved to Spokane, WA, to be closer to loved ones. They enjoyed their new environment in Spokane, feeding the squirrels outside their home, and seeing all the trees, mountains, and snow.
Murray passed away on December 23, 2024. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Murray was the type of friend anyone would want. He was happy to talk with you for hours about anything going on in life and was never too busy to lend an ear. He was the type of man who would give you his last dollar if it would help you, expecting nothing in return. He'll be remembered for his gentle nature, sharp wit and humor, and his kindness towards all.
Murray was preceded in death by Trudy, whom he loved and missed daily since her passing. While Murray and Trudy had no children together, Murray loved and treated Sharene like the daughter he never had. Some of his favorite memories were of watching Sharene grow up. He loved reminiscing about the many road trips to watch her soccer matches, trips to Disneyland together, and being the best man at Justin and Sharene's wedding. His move to Spokane was, in part, to be closer to her in his final years. He was loved by Sharene and will be greatly missed by many. Rest in peace, friend.
