Passed away unexpected May 27, 2017 in Spirit Lake Idaho. He was born in Spokane, Washington, June 24, 1951 to John (Jack) and Dallas Schmidt. He graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane in 1969. Randy married Toni Ver Stoppen in 1973 and welcomed a beautiful daughter, Kimberly Schmidt in 1977. Randy spent the majority of his career as a truck driver, retiring from Ziegler Building Material. Randy was passionate about the outdoors and spent many years volunteering his time with Washington State Youth Conservation Camp. Everyone knew him for his giant bear hugs and huge smile. His love and dedication to serve the youth and share his wisdom and knowledge of the great outdoors was obvious, with service to the Conservation Camp for more than 25 years. Story after story could be heard from Randy after every camp he attended. His love for the hunting and fishing world was seen through his work and activities, at the local shooting ranges and in his commitment to the Big Game Counsel of Spokane. Randy was an avid sportsman, who traveled the world. Hunting stories could be told from as close as Idaho to as far away as Africa. His most recent adventure took him as far away as Uruguay. Spirit Lake, Idaho, was home to Randy, and included a vast community of friends. Randy will be missed greatly by his granddaughter's dance community, known for being his granddaughter's biggest fan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dallas Schmidt, and his daughter Kim Schmidt. Randy leaves behind one granddaughter, Aubrey Regalado; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, first and second cousins and hundreds of friends, whom he called "family."

A Family Graveside Memorial service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace on June 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. 211 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224 (509)838-1405. Dress is casual.
