Richard WALSTON Obituary

Walston, Richard "Dick"

Richard Dale Walston, 68, died at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington, on October 14, 2021 of complications from COVID-19. He was a life-time Colville resident. He is survived by his wife Lois at the home, seven children (Ryan, Erin, Lieven, Andrea, Dayna, Tanner, Ridge) and 14 grandchildren, all of Washington state, and by his sister Susan (Merriam, KS). He also leaves an extended family in the trucking community throughout the western US.

Richard was the owner of Backwoods Trucking. He trained as a mechanic at Denver Automotive and Diesel College in Colorado, and worked for Bronson Implement (Colville) and the Plum Creek (Arden) lumber mill, running his own log hauling business for several years. He transitioned to long-haul trucking when the timber industry declined, and was an owner-operator for over twenty years and an avid fan of Mack trucks. He was a member of Fort Colville Grange #533.

Hennessey Funeral Home in Spokane has been entrusted with the cremation arrangements. No services are planned at this time. There will be a memorial gathering at a later date for family and close friends.

We are so sorry to hear about Dick. He was Ken's college room mate in Denver, and I met him later. He was a gentle giant and a sweet man. He will be missed
