Thomas SCRIVEN Obituary

In Loving Memory

(Age 57)

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Tom Scriven. Born on July 11, 1966, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tom departed this life after a brief battle with cancer, on April 23, 2024, in Spokane. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Barb; his cherished children, Kiera, Austin, and Reagan; his mother, Sharon Hancock, and father, Dale Hancock; his brother, Mark, and sister-in-law, Jan Scriven; his brother, Shane Hancock; along with nieces, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Scriven, and Shaylene Hancock.

Tom's journey through life took him from his early years in Holland Michigan to high school in Columbia, Missouri, and graduation in 1984 from Midland, Texas. He pursued higher education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, earning a BS degree in Psychology in 1991. Tom's adventurous spirit led him to Louisville, Kentucky, where he assisted his brother in the pizza business before settling in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. It was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara "Barb" Davis, whom he married on May 4, 2002. Together, they built a beautiful family, moving to Spokane in 2005 in search of a better quality of life.

Throughout his 25-year career with Verizon Wireless, Tom formed enduring friendships. Recently, he found a new family and sense of belonging with Culligan, and alongside Barb, he co-owned Board and Brush Creative Studio, reveling in the joy of creating and connecting with others in the Spokane community.

Tom's passions were as varied as they were deep. He enjoyed skiing with his kids, embarking on impromptu road adventures, and studying the night sky. His passion for history, and keen enthusiasm for home remodeling and automotive tinkering were evident to all who knew him. His devoted years of service to Camp Fire and Boy Scouts stand as a testament to his selflessness and steadfast dedication to his community.

A devoted husband, father, and friend, Tom will be remembered for his kindness, honesty, and unique sense of humor. His quest for value in all things endeared him to many, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held on May 11, 2024, at 1 pm, at Fairmount Cemetery Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Camp Fire Inland Northwest in honor of Tom's legacy of service and community. https://campfireinc.org
