SOMERS, William 67, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, in the Cleveland Clinic. A son of the late Mitchell and Martha White Somers, William was born on July 23, 1939 in Springfield, Ohio. In 1957, William graduated from Springfield High School. He then attended Ohio State University and Wittenberg University. William worked as a purchasing agent for Piedmont Gas until his retirement in 2005. He was an avid golfer and played all over the country. William also enjoyed sports, fishing and his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. His sense of humor and wonderful caring nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. William never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, Jackie whom he married August 5, 1961; children, John Scott (Arlene) Somers of Berlin, Ohio, Kathy Somers of Massillon, Ohio, William Robert (Lynn) Somers of New Hope, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Miranda, Adam, Marissa and Allison Somers; brother, M. John (Wilma) Somers of Dayton, Ohio; nephews, David Somers of Chicago, Illinois, Steven Somers of New York, New York, and Mark Somers of New London, Connecticut. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 20 Sixth Street, Massillon, Ohio 44646 with Rev. William Burns and Dr. Roger Alber officiating. A reception will be given for family and friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. To share memories and condolences with the family, please visit the funeral home's website.
