Helen Blodgett Obituary

HELEN B. BLODGETT lived in the Greenwich/ Stamford area for over 60 years. Helen Boswell Blodgett, age 93, died peacefully Friday, January 23, 2009 at Edgehill in Stamford. Mrs. Blodgett was the widow of Emmons W. Blodgett who predeceased her in 1995. Mrs. Blodgett was born and raised in Switzerland. She was an accomplished skier who was invited to be on the American Ski Team. As a young adult, she returned to the United States with her family and took a job as teacher at the French School in New York City. When later she married and moved to Greenwich, she became an active community leader. She was a past president of the Alliance Francaise and Greenwich Community Concerts as well as gray lady at Nathaniel Witherell. Later in her life, she became an accomplished artist, and was a member of the Historical Society of Early American Art. Mrs. Blodgett was also an avid figure skater and tennis player. She was a woman of enormous energy and loyalty to those causes she believed in. At the top of that list was the protection of animals and the environment. Mrs. Blodgett leaves her daughter, Victoria F. Blodgett of North Sandwich, NH; nephews Laird Boswell of Madison, WI and Craig Boswell of Oconomowoc, WI; a niece, Cynthia Blardone of France; stepdaughter, Cynthia B. Martin of Westwood, MA; and a stepson, Lawrence W. Blodgett of Cincinnati, OH.
