Mary Mack Obituary
Age 97 passed away on Sunday September 15, 2013 at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Unit. Mary was born July 5, 1916 in Horseheads, NY the daughter of the late Frank E. and Marie Hill Austin. She married her husband, Wayne D. Mack, on May 10, 1946 and he predeceased her on October 28, 1996. Mary was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Edyne and Bill Young, Kate and Lester Keener; her brothers and sisters-in-law Leland and Margaret Austin and Oren and Margaret Austin; her nieces Mary Kay Young and Nancy Bailey; and her nephew Charles Keener. Mrs. Mack was a life-long resident of Horseheads and she will be missed by all. She was The Horseheads Town Clerk for 20 years from January 1963 to April 1983 and issued many people their marriage license. Mary was a caring Christian woman who helped whenever she could and was never judgmental and a friend to everyone she met. She was a charter member of The Calvary Baptist Church (Lighthouse Baptist Church) in Horseheads, NY. Mary's Family would like to thank The Skilled Nursing 5th Floor Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital for their loving and compassionate care during Mary's stay. Mary is survived by her nieces Barbara (Glenn) Smith and Eula (Bill) Pratt all of Horseheads, NY; nephews: Raymond (Joanna) Keener of California, Tom (Cindy) Young of Elmira, NY and Wayne Young of Horseheads, NY, several grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Thursday September 19 , 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mrs. Mack's Funeral and Committal Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Mary will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Wayne in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, it was Mary's wish that she be remembered through memorial donations to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 209 Gardner Road Horseheads, NY 14845, The Horseheads Town Animal Shelter, 150 Wygant Road, Horseheads, NY 14845, or by an act of kindness.

I had the pleasure of doing Mary's hair at St. Joseph's Hospital. I enjoyed the time I had with her. I recently had to move and leave St. Joseph's Hospital and she didn't want me to go. I'm glad I got the time I had to get to know her. She meant a lot to me.

My brother Lee Phelan let me know yesterday about Mary's passing. She was a nice lady. I remember seeing her at Calvary Baptist Church on Sundays. She was a great lady. Remember my Dad Martin Phelan saying well have to go see Mary today. He liked talking with her. Mom (Marguerite)thought she was wonderful too. She will be missed RIP Mary Marge Phelan Johnson

The last time I saw Mary was not to long ago having breakfast in Gerould's. She was sharp then. Mary it was an honor to met & know you. May you rest in peace.

My brother Lee Phelan told me this morning that Mary had passed on. No doubt in my mind..she is with her heavenly Father, her Savior. She was a fine lady. As a young man I use to see her in the Baptist where our family also attended. I left HHds in 1959 and except for a few visits haven't seen her much. Use to her my Mom talk about her. Everyone loved Mary. God Bless her family. Martin Phelan Sr.

I met Miss Mary when she was a patient in the podiatry office I worked at. She was beautiful inside and out. She was always in a good mood and made you smile just to see her. Very much a lady and I always enjoyed her visits. God Bless you Miss Mary!

Wayne and Mary were our neighbors on Franklin Street for many years. Many evenings we enjoyed coffee, desert and small talk while sitting around on nice summer evenings. May the Lord Bless and Keep you Mary. Sandy MacDonald
