Martha Ann Zeigler Schmick died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at UMSMC (Memorial Hospital) in Easton, MD. She was born on August 4, 1930 and raised on her family's farm near Denton, MD. She was the daughter of the late Frank D. Zeigler, Sr., and Lelia Ann Cool Zeigler. Martha Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Leon H. Schmick, Sr., brother, Frank D. Zeigler, Jr., sister, Mary Catherine Zeigler Derrickson, and infant son.
After graduating from Caroline High School in Denton, MD, she attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, where she received a degree in Home Economics. On August 4, 1951 she married Leon Schmick and together they continued a family farming tradition for 65 years in Preston, MD. For several years she taught Home Economics at Preston School and was a caregiver to many family members throughout her life. She also shared her cooking talents far and wide, preparing baked goods and meals for those in need and offering the gift of visits to shut-ins, and nursing home residents. She was dedicated to the Lutheran Church and a faithful prayer warrior no doubt lifting up thousands of people in prayer over her lifetime.
Martha Ann dearly loved her family and enjoyed gathering with them, especially during holidays. She is survived by her children, L. Henry Schmick, Jr. (Blanca), of White Post, VA, Mary June Jones (Henry), of Raleigh, NC, and Roger Schmick (Ann), of Preston, MD; grandchildren Weldon Jones (Hastings), Anna Jones Michalove (Will), Kelly Correa-Schmick, David Correa-Schmick, Steven Correa-Schmick, Grace Schmick, Bobby Schmick, and Gaby Schmick; and great-grandchildren Frances Jones, Weldon Jones IV, and William Michalove, Jr.
The family wishes to thank Heartfields Assisted Living at Easton for providing compassionate care to Martha Ann during her 9 years of residency.
In accordance with Martha Ann's wishes, her body has been donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland for medical education. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been made with with Moore Funeral Home, P.A., in Denton, MD
