Marvin Augustus Davis

1921 - 2017

GREENSBORO - Marvin Augustus Davis of Greensboro, Md., died peacefully on June 21, 2017, at Compass Regional Hospice in Denton, Md. He was 96 years old.
Born April 4, 1921, in Golts, Md., he was the son of the late Elise Darling Davis and Augustus Davis. He graduated from Galena High School in 1939.
Mr. Davis enjoyed truck driving, boating, go-cart racing and sitting back watching hummingbirds while taking care of his flower garden. Marvin grew up helping on the family farm. He also helped with his parent's grocery business for 30 years.
After high school, he worked as a carpenter and at Deamer's Steel Company. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy and upon leaving the service, opened up Davis' Market in Smyrna, Del. He was a truck driver for Burris Food Trucking Company and TRP Trucking Company for a combined 48 years. After retirement, he worked as a handyman for Tom Pinto.
Marvin was a member of Teamsters Union Local 107 and 326. He volunteered with the American Legion as an ambulance driver from 1945 to 1948. He was also an active member of the American Legion.
Marvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Grace Virginia Davis; and his parents, Augustus and Elise Darling Davis; a brother, Austin Davis; a son, Marvin Davis Jr.; and daughters, Nancy Lee Ayers and step-daughter Jacqueline Virginia Miles. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Comegys of Dover, Del.; and stepdaughter, Estelle Ferguson of Oklahoma; a stepson, Wayne Ritter of Centreville, Md.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 1 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home P.A., 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, where friends may call on Monday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Easton.
