Stanley Dent Smith Jr.

1936 - 2024

Stanley D. Smith Jr., age 87, of Greensboro MD, beloved husband for 67 years to Anita (Midge) Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday August 1st.

He was born on August 21, 1936, and lived in Annapolis, MD until he retired to Greensboro, MD in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his father Stanley D. Smith Sr., his mother Mary Agnes Smith, brothers Oliver Smith, John Smith, and Charles Smith and his sisters Naamah Kendrick and Mary Mandel.

He is survived by his wife, Midge, daughter Cindy Kanelos of Greensboro, MD, Scott (Sharon) Smith of Annapolis, MD, grandson Andrew Smith of Nashville, TN, granddaughter Sarah (Jack) Hollingsworth of Burke, VA and great-granddaughter Maisie Hollingsworth. He is survived by his sisters Norma (Jeff) MacMillan of Hopkinton, MA and Agnes (Ashby) Keen of Edgewater, MD.

He started his career as a carpenter and learned large-scale construction management eventually becoming a superintendent of a large Washington, D.C. based construction firm where he supervised and built sewer treatment plants, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, parking garages and metro stops of the Washington, D.C. subway system. Once retired on the eastern shore, Stanley enjoyed hosting a Smith family reunion, antique restoration and gardening where he grew everything from asparagus to zucchini. He is a past Worshipful Master of the Annapolis Masonic Lodge #89 and a past board member and volunteer with the Samaritan House in Denton, MD.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, August 7th from 10 am to 12 noon at the Denton Church of the Nazarene in Denton, MD followed by a noon memorial service at the same location. There will be a private graveside burial on Thursday, August 8th at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. In remembrance of Stanley Smith, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Samaritan House in Denton, MD.
