Mr. Donald Claxton Lowery

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Donald Claxton Lowery, age 84, died Wednesday at his residence. The Laurens County native moved to Statesboro as a teenager. He and his wife lived in Port Wentworth for many years and returned to Statesboro over 25 years ago. Donald was a carpenter most of his life and a member of the Carpenters Union #256, Savannah, Georgia. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Donald loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Carrie Ella Lowery; his wife, Jackie Clayton Lowery; and his son-in-law, Bob Gibbs.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Smokie Roberts of Riverdale and Gayle L. Gibbs of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Michelle and Billy Pildner of Locust Grove, Brandy and Armando Rowlands of McDonough, Amanda Young of San Francisco, Calif.; and Ashley Gibbs of the U.S. Navy; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Ganell Miller of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will follow the visitation in the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. Interment will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dean Dixon, Levy Lowery, Dale Lowery, Robert Lowery, Tony Akins and Wayne Miller.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 4025 Friendship Church Road, Statesboro, GA 30458.
