Lynn Hubbard Obituary

Lynn Newsome Hubbard, age 65, passed away Thursday evening at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, while preparing for surgery to repair an acute aortic aneurism. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Statesboro to the late Lewis Newsome and Grace Wells Newsome Overturff. The Statesboro native was a member of First Baptist Church Statesboro and was a master flower show judge.
She was also a long-time member of the National State Garden Clubs. Other memberships included the East Georgia Judges Council, the Sprig & Dig Garden Club and The Bulldog Club. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, Time Saver potato logs, traveling and spending time at the beach in her condo on Hilton Head Island. She was an avid animal lover who rescued Dobermans.
Lynn loved life. She was a creative spirit that challenged others to be their best. She had a thousand-watt smile, infectious laugh and playful soul. She loved to entertain and was always looking for reasons to celebrate even small successes.
Besides her husband, Larry, her two greatest loves were her daughter, Lori, and granddaughter, Edie "Amazing" Grace Grice. Her creative energy, engaging personality and desire to make everyone's lives that she touched a little better will live on through her girls.
Lewis Grizzard admired her stories, neighbors craved her sweet tea and deviled eggs and friends just wanted to be with her.
Family, faith and friends were her life. Entertaining was her passion. Floral design was her creative expression and Tuesdays were her favorite day to read the Statesboro Herald.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Martin Newsome; and a nephew, Randy Edwards.
Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her husband of 32 years, Larry Hubbard; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and DeWayne Grice; a granddaughter, Edie Grace Grice, all of Statesboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha Bird Edwards (John) of St. Marys, Ga.; and Kathy Newsome Riggs (Gil) of Statesboro; a sister-in-law, Connie Newsome of Millen; special nieces and nephews, Josh Riggs of Savannah, Will Riggs of Statesboro, Candy Edwards Barber and Connie Edwards Conrad of St. Marys, Ga.; Darryl Jones of Lake City, Fla.; and special cousins, Susan and Doug Porter, and their children, Lauren Porter and Ryan Porter of Statesboro.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with the Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Doug Porter, Dave Rogers, Scott Thompson, Nathan Field, Todd Aldrich and Larry Cartee.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the East Georgia Judges Council, Sprig & Dig Garden Club and The Bulldog Club.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
