Bob Tucker Obituary

Bob Tucker Robert James Tucker was born January 5, 1947 in Beardstown, Illinois. He died February 1, 2011 in Austin, Texas. He was the son of Howard and Ethyl Tucker of Virginia, Illinois. After graduating from Virginia High School in 1965, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base until his discharge in 1969. This is when he met his wife, Zaidee. They were married in 1970. He worked as an electronic technician for a variety of companies, including Texas Instruments and Seton Medical Center. Last October he retired from the University of Texas where he had worked at the IAT research lab as an instrumentation technician. His love of music and God inspired him to spend over 40 years singing in the choir at Hyde Park Christian Church, and more recently he began singing with the choir at First Evangelical Free Church. The love and devotion he had for his family and friends was second only to his love for Christ. He knew what it meant to be devoted to Jesus and put his faith solely in the finished work of what Christ did on the cross. He was constantly looking for ways to serve the Lord by helping other people. He helped with relief work in Austin after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. After retiring, he earned his ham radio license and worked closely with the Austin Disaster Relief Network. Bob is survived by his wife, Zaidee, and two sons, Nathan and John, all of Austin; his brother, Charles Tucker, and sister, Betty Walker, both of Eustis, Florida; mother-in-law, Mae Waggoner of Austin; brother-in-law, Robert Waggoner of Austin; brother-in- law and wife, Bob and Hazel Gibson, of Greeley, Colorado; and special friends the Ihekwoaba family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jennie Gibson, and his father-in-law, John Waggoner. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Austin Disaster Relief Network. You can mail your donations to: ADRN, P.O. Box 3817, Cedar Park, TX 78630. Or you may make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning, Saturday, the 5th day of February at Hyde Park Christian Church at 610 E. 45th Street in Austin, TX. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Bob had a great way of telling family
stories. His work on family geneology
is a real treasure. He loved family
reunions and gatherings, attending
as he could. He will be sorely missed.
