Ernest Becker Obituary

BECKER, Jr., Ernest
January 25, 1936-April 17, 2016
Ernest William "Ernie" Becker, Jr., age 80, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Austin, Texas. An avid Longhorn football fan and season ticket holder, Ernie enjoyed watching the football games with his kids.

Ernie retired from the Austin Police Department as a Senior Sergeant in November 1995, after dedicating 36 years of service. Ernie was an avid bowler and was president of the Austin Bowling Association for many years. He was also a member of the Maennerchor at Saengerrunde and helped coordinate many of the events at the Saegerrunde Hall.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 8 years, Joann Kunde Becker. Ernie and Joann married on December 29, 2007. He is also survived by his two sons, Ernest William "Rusty" Becker, III and wife, Shannon; and James Glenn "Jimmy" Becker and wife, Cindi. Ernie is also survived by his step-daughter, Diane Kunde and husband, Gary. He was proud of his grandchildren, Courtney and Hayden Becker; Michelle, Brittany and Laurie Becker; and his step-grandson, Shane Scott and wife, Jennifer. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to list.

The family will receive friends at the visitation on Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.

Funeral services will be on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Ernie will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, next to his wife of 39 years, Doris Anne Becker.

For those family and friends wishing to join the family after services, they will be gathering at Salt Lick BBQ in Round Rock to celebrate Ernie's life and his love of BBQ and cold beer!

Ernie was a kind and generous man who shared his love of life with everyone he knew. My fondest memories are his unending work with the Austin Bowling Assn. He was a leader. And later, he was a vital part of the Austin Saengerrunde Club. We sang our songs in German Language to help keep that tradition alive. We will all miss him, and we send our sincere condolences to all of the Becker family. May God watch over you, Joann, in this time of sorrow.

To the Becker family, we send out our condolences to all of you and will certainly miss Ernie. He was such a nice gentle soul. I won't forget our times I sat and visited with him at Dart Bowl each week in the café. He always had good words of wisdom to give me about my job and how to handle my business. Glad I could get to see him during the UT football games and will really miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sonny was the best, and I nicknamed him Pooh Bear, because he never seemed bothered by anything. I will cherish the many memories of him being my neighbor growing up driving Adam-30 and my friend on camping and bowling trips with my family. RIP Sgt. Becker.
