Margaret Mitchell Obituary

Margaret (Betsy) Schwartz Mitchell After a six year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, Betsy Mitchell peacefully passed away on October 31, 2012, with her loving family at her side. She now joins her parents, her in-laws, who she loved as parents, and her daughter, Jennifer. She was born November 20, 1941 in Kokomo, Indiana where she lived until she left to attend Indiana University, graduating in 1963 with a major in marketing. She moved to Columbus, Ohio to work for F. & R. Lazarus where she met her husband, Jim of 47 years. They then moved to Dallas where she became a sportswear buyer for Neiman Marcus and helped finance his three years in law school. Betsy loved reading, gardening, bridge, stock investing and cooking and was very good at all of them. In her younger days she was also an excellent golfer. She enjoyed traveling, as long as it wasn't a long trip to Asia. She especially loved watching the Cowboys, at least until Jimmy left, and always loved the Indiana Hoosiers, even after Bobby left. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Margaret Schwartz, her in-laws, Kenny and Virginia Mitchell, and her beloved daughter, Jennifer. She is survived by her husband, Jim; three wonderful daughters and their husbands, Caty and Alex Winslow of Austin, Julie and Jeremy Weber of Chicago and Molly and Anup Shah of Charlotte. And of course, and extremely important, are her five adorable grandchildren, Caroline and Henry Winslow, Clara and Ellie Weber, and Kal Shah. She is also survived by her sister and her husband, Becky and Jim Gatman, nephew David Gatman and his wife Heather, and sons, Drew and Carter, all of Indiana, and by her niece Karen Gatman of Charlotte. She was very blessed to have such a supportive and loving family and she will be missed very much by all of them and by her many friends. Her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life will remain in the memory of all who knew her. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Betsy's dedicated and devoted caregivers who made things much easier for her and all the rest of us. They were led by Cynthia Hill with help from Natalie Hastings, Jamila Coleman, Kate Goodsell, Darlene Mitchell and Glenda Mitchell. And a special thanks to Amy Brenham with Hospice Austin and our Nurse Practitioner extraordinaire, Kim Butrum. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be held at Restland from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin TX 789749 or The Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn GA 30047. Dear Jim, girls and families,
From your Illinois Wilson family and member of your Sigma Pi family, we offer our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers for the loss of your wife, mother, grandmother, and our friend, Betsy. We have many wonderful memories of Ohio family gatherings, fraternity gatherings, and beautiful weddings that we shared with your family over the years. Betsy was quite a gal and we always enjoyed spending time with her. She was one of the few people we know that truly enjoyed shopping more than attending a football. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched throughout her lifetime. We send our deepest sympathy to all of you...Your Cousin, John Wilson and family
