William Lloyd Duncan, 98, Major, U.S. Army (retired), passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Brookdale Westlake in Austin, of natural causes.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Marquita Clymer Duncan, and an extended family of 5 sons, 2 daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was previously married for 52 years to Dorothy Evelyn (Payne) Duncan, who died in 1996. Bill met Markie in a grief-counseling group at the "For the Love of Christy" Center in Austin, after Dorothy's death, where Markie was recovering from the loss of her husband of 42 years.

Bill was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, the son of Shelton and Adelaide Duncan.

After graduating from Sunset High School in Dallas, he attended Trinity University in Waxahachie, Texas. In November of 1941 he entered the U.S. Army. He saw service both stateside and in Europe during WW II as a Photo Officer. His photo team provided film that, after censure and editing at the Pentagon, became the basis for Fox Movietone News coverage of World War II in Europe; his group was selected by the Army to be the exclusive U.S. photo team to record the linkup of the US and Russian armies in Berlin, for which he received both the Bronze Star and the Russian Red Star.

After retiring from the Army in 1967 he became a photographer for the "Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine", but was soon hired away by President Lyndon B. Johnson to be the White House photographer during the President's last 3 months in office. He continued to serve LBJ as the photographer for the Western White House, until becoming the Director of the Audio-Visual Department for the LBJ Library in Austin.

His family, travel and photography remained a love for the rest of his life, as he and Markie traveled all over the world during his retirement years.

Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, with a family Memorial Service at a later date.
