Shirley Campbell Greer died peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The former Shirley Ann Campbell was born on September 21, 1931 in Statesville, N.C. to Ann Roseman Campbell and Albert Spencer Campbell.

She attended and graduated from Celeste Henkel School in Statesville and subsequently married Paul Stanley Greer. Together they went to Chapel Hill where Paul earned his degree and Shirley took accounting courses and became a lifelong and rabid Tar Heel fan.

The couple then moved to Greenville, N.C. where Shirley went to work in the accounting department at East Carolina University. When the family relocated to Greensboro, N.C. she worked at UNC-G helping put together the budget for the university.

Always wanting to be of service, she was an active volunteer in a number of organizations including Pilot International, Mission Possible prison ministry and her church, as well as her children's and grandchildren's schools.

Shirley loved travel and at the age of 87 became the church's oldest pilgrim when she traveled to Israel with Christ Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader and a decent bridge player. She enjoyed gardening and was blessed with a green thumb.

Shirley was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and amassed a legion of friends in her lifetime.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, a son, Danny Albert Ostwalt, and a grandson, Nathan Greer Yorke.

She is survived by a daughter, Paula Greer Yorke (David), a son, Mark Antony Greer (Ginger), and a daughter-in-law, Pattie Keane Ostwalt. She is also survived by grandchildren Spencer Yorke, Campbell Greer, Nathan Greer, Christopher Ostwalt and Danielle Ostwalt. She leaves behind five great grandchildren.

The family was incredibly blessed to have two angels, Shana and Selena who lovingly cared for Shirley and are now like family. We would like to express our gratitude to the entire Wellmore Daniel Island staff who do such a wonderful job and to Crescent Hospice of Charleston.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte. Interment will be on the same day at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
