David N. Crawford
Stevens Point - David Norman Crawford, age 88, died August 8, 2018 at his home, while surrounded by his family.
David was born December 9, 1929 in Wauwatosa Wisconsin to William E. and Bertha (Satterley) Crawford. He attended schools in Wauwatosa and graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1949. He then took a long trip to the West Coast, including one semester as a student at Los Angelos Jr. College. In 1950 he started school at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo MI.
David was called into active duty in the US Navy and served from 1952-1954. While in the Navy, he was a photographer and worked in the photo lab in San Diego, CA.
In 1954 he married Arvalea (Arvy) Bunning and the couple moved to Madison, WI where he attended the University of Wisconsin. He was employed at Allis Chalmers in West Allis for 10 years. In 1967 he took a job as manager of Asbury Acres United Methodist Camps in Almond, WI. He moved to Stevens Point in 1977 and finished a degree in Art at UWSP. He continued doing both sculpture and painting, but also earned money as a Handyman until retirement.
Dave enjoyed camping, several canoe trips into the Quetico Canoe area in Canada, and skiing. He and his wife loved taking their grandchildren on extended trips. They also attended many Road Scholar Trips.
He is survived by his wife, Arvy; son, Richard (Suzan) Crawford, Albuquerque, NM and daughter, Susan (James) Klein, Stevens Point; fourteen grandchildren, Franz (Rosemary) Klein, Cashton, WI, Stephen (Tara) Klein, Stevens Point, James (Nicole) Klein, Platteville, WI, Oliver (Brittany Reed) Klein, Stevens Point, Johanna (Jon) McIntyre, Stevens Point, Gabrielle Lord Klein, Forest City, IA, Zebulun (Lauren) Klein, Stevens Point, Susan (Colin) Schmenk, Green Bay, WI, Kimberley Klein Vermillion, SD, Ryann Klein, Xavier Klein, Anton Klein and Tobias Klein, Stevens Point, and Dakota Dawn Dowel, Albuquerque, NM; and by twelve great grandchildren, Cyprian, Clement, Cletus, Chrysoganus, and Cornelius Klein, Cashton, WI, Khari and Kira Klein, Stevens Point, Ira Klein, Platteville, WI, Tiana, Lucas, Adaline, and Melanie McIntyre, Stevens Point, and Oswald Klein who is due in October; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert S. Crawford and Theodore E. Crawford.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 St. Paul's United Methodist Church wit Rev. Tim O'Brien presiding. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Boston Funeral Home and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
