Carter, Howard 'Nick' III
After a battle of with cancer, on June 1, 2022, Howard 'Nick' Carter III passed away at home at the age of 80 with his family at his side. Much beloved by family and friends, Nick was known for his upbeat attitude, his ability to see the best in everyone, his generosity toward anyone he encountered, his ferocious devotion to his family, his relentless sense of humor, and his quick response to anyone who asked for help. Upon graduating from Princeton University in 1964, Nick worked at McDonnell-Douglas, then Boeing for 42 years. Once retired, he was recruited as a consultant for 10 additional years. Nick was the first person to create, and ultimately digitize, an integrated subsystem for Boeing planes.
Nick's death was preceded by the passing of his wife, Nancy J. Carter on June 10, 2021. He is survived by his children, Bill Carter (Lisa), Beth Pruett (Matt), Andrew Nantz (Renata), Jeremy Nantz; his siblings, Betsy Carter and Joanie Martin, and his grandchildren, Luke, Cyrus, Brayden, Skyler, Brooklyn, Inesa, Nevara, and Linas.
Nick's family will hold a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Nick to Wild Bird Rehab, online at www.wildbirdrehab.org or to Tabby's Place, online at www.tabbysplace.org.
