I am so saddened by the sudden loss of Ryan. I was one of several people who interviewed him when he first started at Express Scripts soI knew him from the very beginning of his time there about 10 years ago. We knew right away that he seemed intelligent and sharp and would fit in well with our team culture. We were not mistaken. Over the years I watched him get promoted several times as a result of his strong work ethic and professionalism. Not only was he sharp, he was extremely likeable. I have several fond memories of talking and laughing with him. The last time I saw him in passing about a month ago his face lit up and he gave me the most genuinely happy to me smile. That is as how i will always remember him. I am completely heartbroken for his partner Katie and I hope that she can find peace soon in the midst of a horrible situation.

When I visited last night I was there because Ryan was a really wonderful part of the data science masters program my friends Grant and Chi-Ren and I run. Grant and Ilker and I came because we wanted you to know how much we appreciated Ryan in life.
Damn that guy loved analyzing baseball data. I suspect more than the game itself; what else could explain his ability to manage the cognitive and emotional dissonance of being a Cardinals fans and a Royals fan. He may be the only person ever. Certainly the only one I've ever known.
Hours after the memorial last night I realized his Mom was instrumental in launching the software product I led the development of during my PhD studies at MU. And how this terrible, way too soon and tragic loss of Ryan touched so many of the people in my life not only now, but over a decade ago.
Ryan was an exceptional human and passionate about his work with data. Weirdly so. I'm doubly saddened by his tragic death and hope that everyone who loves Ryan and is struggling now know that he will be missed by so many, in so many ways. Last night I didn't realize how many people in my world are affected by his loss. He was that kind of person. Always connecting. Always thinking. Always analyzing. I knew his mind better than his person, but I looked forward to every call, every google hangout, every Slack chat. Because talking with Ryan about data was really, really fun.
So so sorry for his loss, Deb and family.
