Shirley Matheus Obituary

Matheus, Shirley May 76, of Kirkwood, Missouri passed away December 17, 2015. Born in St. Louis, she was a teacher for 40 years and helped found Hazelwood School District's Galactic gifted program. She loved teaching and made a lasting and valued contribution to the education of several generations of students. Shirley enjoyed local theatre and entertaining in her beautiful home and will be missed by her Delta Zeta sorority sisters, Missouri Psychological Association holiday party attendees, Harris Teachers College alumni, family and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Martin Thieret and Lillie Louise (Valleroy) Thieret, and her beloved husband, John Milton Matheus. Mourning Shirley's passing is her sister Mary Ann Swaine, her two children: Ann Marie Matheus (San Francisco, CA) and John Michael Matheus, daughter-inlaw Xuemei Ye-Matheus and granddaughters Annabella Tian Long Matheus and Sophia Rose Matheus (Long Island, NY). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Shirley's name to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org or 1-800-272-3900)

FROM ALL OF SHIRLEY'S DELTA ZETA SISTERS,
OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU AT THIS
TIME. SHIRLEY WAS A VITAL MEMBER OF OUR
CHAPTER BEFORE AND AFTER GRADUATION. OUR
MONTHLY MEETINGS, SINCE THE EARLY 60'S, HAVE
ALLOWED US TO KEEP IN TOUCH AS WE BEGAN OUR
TEACHING CAREERS, MARRIAGE AND FAMILIES. WE
HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF SHIRLEY AND HAVE AND
WILL CONTINUE TO MISS HER.

Ann& John, sorry for your loss. I knew your Dad from Harris & roomed w/ him & Jim Patterson at Rolla. We called your Mom "Sweetie Pie". I could not keep track of her after she left the Kirkwood house & quite a house it was. Good memories when we made our own Rolla reunions in each of our homes. Shalom, Bill Moses
