I only knew Steve for a short time in my life. We were fraternity brothers in college. My heart is heavy for the family that he left behind. Steve played an important role in my development. He helped me to see that I could embrace myself, both good and bad. That I could share that with the world and not worry about the response. Live life to the fullest, every moment. You will be missed.

I was stunned and saddened to hear about this as I read through a local newspaper. I worked with Steve at AXA which seems like a lifetime ago. I must admit he was a real good and easy-going guy. I remember how we played basketball together and always discussed sports. He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family. Stay strong!!!

December 9, 2015

Stephanie and family, Kathy and I want to express our sincere condolences at this time of loss. You may remember the first night when I came to St. Louis that we had dinner together. That was the start of a seven year partnership. Working together as closely as we did was full of highs and lows, but we accomplished a lot.

You should know that Steve was highly respected, not only in the branch but across the company. He helped countless individuals in their careers, including me. His legacy is firmly entrenched in this company and industry.

May Steve rest in peace and may God bless you and your family!

Dearest McFadden Family,

I am still in shock that this is even real. Steve was not only a knowledgable, hard working manager, but also a true friend. Whenever I had any issue, he always found a way to resolve it. I will miss his laughter and jokes in the office, including March Madness (I think last year was the 1st year he went electronic with it and he even joked about that with the older agents). He loved his family and talked about you all the time- he was proud.

God only knows why these things happen and I find prayers to be a sound outlet. I will continue to pray for you daily. Please reach out to any of us advisors if you need a shoulder... After all that is what we are here for... Steve taught us that. May he Rest in Peace and have God watch over his soul.

Dear McFadden Family -

My heart is so heavy as I write this. Thinking back at all the BOM meetings and have so many good memories. Steven always made me (and everyone around him) laugh with his positive and charismatic attitude. The partnership and leadership he showed will be his AXA legacy. He will be sorely missed!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you especially during this time of grief.

Stephanie, Connor, Ryan and Rory:

I remember Steven as an energetic, vibrant, athletic guy when I hired him to replace me as the Operations Manager for AXA in St. Louis about 15 years ago. The last time I saw Steven a few months ago, it seemed as though nothing had changed except that he may have had some grey hair now. In fact, Steven and I talked and laughed last week about how his Fantasy Football team (The St. Louis Lambs) were FINALLY leading our Fantasy Football league - a position he had not held perhaps since the league started about 10 years ago.

Over the years, Steven and I would talk about many things and our conversations always turned to our Children - he loved to brag on his boys and loved to be their coach. He would leave work early just to be a part of their sports world. He loved/loves you boys so much.

Steven and I were at the Lake of the Ozarks one summer at a B/C Boost weekend and he and I were talking about our marriages and Steven wondered why he was blessed with such a good wife because he did not believe he deserved her. He loved/loves you Stephanie.

When he found out he was going to have a third child he called me and said: "Dude, I need to tell you something I have not told anyone else. I'm going to have another child." I said, "Should I tell Stephanie?" We both had a good laugh. But that's the kind of guy and relationship he and I had. We could joke with each other yet we expected honesty from each other and we gave it and received it.

I will miss my friend, my successor, the person I used to call to hear that soft welcome of "what's happening?" when he answered my calls.

Please know that he lived and worked for you but most of all, loved being with you. You were the lucky ones.

Stephanie & Family...

I am truly sorry for your loss. I am fortunate to be able to call Steve not just a colleague, but a true friend. I always looked forward to seeing and catching up with him at company meetings. It was obvious to me that when I first met him, he was a very honest and fun loving guy who put his family at the core of his entire world. He will be missed by everyone he touched.

Dear Dan, Linda, Chris, Patrick and the McFadden extended families,

Our deepest expression of condolence to you and the McFadden family. We can't find words adequate for expressing our sorrow over such unimaginable loss. As your friends since childhood, we're hopeful our standing together with you now at such a time, will lend at least some small consolation and support to you and also as tribute to Steven, and his life well lived.

I worked with Steve for a few years through AXA Advisors. Steve was already employed with AXA in St. Louis when I started with Bill Woody in Springfield. Every time I called him he would have me on speaker phone (which he knew I hated). I would say "McFadden if you don't take me off of speaker I am going to hang up on you"!! He immediately did so. We had so much fun aggravating each other. I can't believe he's gone. He was one of the greatest guys I have ever known. May the Lord bless you during your time of grief.

Steve and I worked together at AXA, what seems like 50 years ago. He was a great man, friendly and always willing to help out in some way. We were in different districts and then he was my ops mgr. He was a blast to work with.

Over the past 14 years, my contact with Steve was less and mostly thru events Stephanie would hold for work. I always loved when the events included spouses and we'd get the chance to catch up with Steve in a more social and relaxed environment.

Even though we didn't see each other often, I will miss the times we had together over the past 19 years.

It is no surprise to anyone visiting this guest book that Steven had the unique ability to fill a room with laughter and smiles.

He was not only a colleague, but a genuine friend to many. He will be missed.

What a huge and totally unexpected loss for everyone. I knew and worked with Steve for his entire AXA career and always loved any time spent with him. He worked hard and did the right thing for people. Steve was there when people needed him - and he always went out of his way to help me.

He was warm and friendly, had a great sense of humor, and was just great to be around.

All the best to his family whom he always talked about with such great pride and happiness. May all the McFadden's get through this awful time and take comfort in knowing Steve is smiling down on us, with that twinkle in his eye, and taking care of things from above!
