Denise "Dee" Gaddy

Denise "Dee" Gaddy, 87, long-time resident of Long Beach, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 3, 2017, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Dr. J. Hurd Gaddy; her children, Debbie G. Whitty (Chris), Beth G. Miles (Andy), Dr. Jim Gaddy (Ruth), and Dr. Don Gaddy (Katy); 16 grandchildren: Jaime Jones (David), Jodie Messersmith (Kimball), Jennifer deVilleneuve (Ryan), Joy Banik (Patrick), Lauren Webber (Derek), Ashleigh Gaddy, Erin Osborne (Jay), Andrew J. Miles, Emily Dalton (Parker), Julianne Tondreau (Andy), Bryan Gaddy (Hannah), Jason Gaddy, Patrick Gaddy, Trey Gaddy (Anna), Montee Gaddy, and Neely Gaddy, and she is also survived by 17 great grandchildren.

Denise was born in Chicago, IL, and grew up in Jacksonville, FL. She completed her RN at Charity Hospital in New Orleans where she met her husband. "Dee" was a long-time leader in the Gulf Coast community and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She started the St. Thomas Mothers' Club in the late 1950's which later became the Carnival Association of Long Beach. She was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, president of the local and state chapters of the MS Medical Alliance, member of the Historical Society of Long Beach, the Long Beach Garden Club, her Book Club, Scripture Group. She also worked as an emergency room nurse at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.

"Mama Dee" was not only a strong force in the community but was dearly loved and cherished by all in her family. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 5, 2017, from 5 – 8 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach.

All who knew Dee Gaddy were blessed. As a brand new nurse, she wrapped her arms around me, taught me, not only the ER, but survival tactics that would take me through a lifetime of nursing. She was a force to be reckoned with. I can't remember one single day she was in a bad mood and anyone who is a nurse knows we all had a reason or two to be in a terrible mood!
When we're gone, all that's left is the good we did. Thanking God for Dee Gaddy...she left an enormous amount of blessings to others, thereby leaving her indelible mark. Praying for her family, Martha Fagan Amacker

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Dee Gaddy. I did not know Mrs. Dee personally, but the Gaddy family goes back many years in my family. My grandmother thought highly of the Gaddy family and was delighted I was in their care. Dr. Ira did my prenatal care for the birth of my daughter, but Dr. Hurd delivered. Every member of this family is a credit to their family, friends, patients, community and the world around us. Tho we may mourn our loss of this remarkable woman, I know the angels are rejoicing that one of their own is back in the fold.

So sorry to hear of Mrs Gaddy's passing. I remember her being such a sweet lady. She and Dr Hurd would come by to visit Mama and Daddy when in Wiggins. Prayers for peace and comfort.
