Doug Schaefer Obituary

Douglas L. Schaefer, age 73, of Delray Beach, formerly of Aventura, passed away August 21, 2014. Beloved son of Bernice Schaefer; devoted son of the late Daniel Schaefer, brother of Richard and brother-in-law of Sandra, of Brooklyn, New York; and loving uncle to Peter Schaefer and his wife Margaret Schwartz and their children Tillie and Reuben, of Brooklyn. Doug was born in Chicago on July 11, 1941. Graduate of Bennett Elementary School, Chicago IL, Lyons Township High School, La Grange IL. Degrees from Northwestern University (BS in Education 1963, PhD 1972), and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (MA1964). Following high school teaching at Maine Township HS in Illinois, taught at Miami Dade College from 1966 until his retirement in 2004. A lifelong traveler in nature-oriented trips throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe and beyond to Falkland Islands, Suriname, Ecuador, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Papua and New Guinea, Antarctica, the Patagonia region of Argentina, China during the era of Chou En-Lai, Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, and Australia. Resident of Abbey Delray South where he participated in the Men's Club and Marketing Committee. Private family service August 23 in Florida.
