Ilse Herrmann de Almeida

Almeida de Almeida, Ilse Herrmann, of Plantation, FL, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Ilse was born in the Bronx and was a graduate of Fordham Hospital School of Nursing, Bronx, New York. After having three sons in West Virginia, she and her husband, Dr. Mauricio J. de Almeida, a longtime surgeon in Broward County who preceded Ilse in death, moved their family to South Dakota to fill the need for a surgeon in a rural farming community. There she organized a Woman's Auxiliary for the new hospital. She moved with her family to Plantation in 1971. She was an active member of Peace United Presbyterian Church for many years. She loved history, books and to travel, especially to Germany, the birthplace of her parents, Otto and Betty Herrmann; and loved her hometown New York City. She is survived by her loving sons, M. John (Barbara) of Plantation, FL, Douglas (Jane) of Davie, Fl, and Mark (Ann Marie) of Charlottesville, VA; her brother William (Edna) Herrmann of Fredricksburg, VA. She will be sorely missed by the lights of her life, her six grandchildren, Kristen, Jonathan, Katherine, Nicole, Allison, and Jeffrey. Viewing will be Friday, February 5 from 5-7 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 6 at T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4 Street, Plantation, FL.
