Wayne Marcellin Obituary

WAYNE "RUSTY" MARCELLIN A Newark resident for 35 years, died on Thursday, January 15, 2004. He was 74 years old. Because of his unwavering faith in God, his family and friends rejoice that he is safely with Jesus. Rusty was born in Laws, CA and spent his childhood in Bishop, CA. He and his five brothers spent much of their summer days working with their father on a sheep ranch. Rusty attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and graduated Cum Laude in 1958. He used his skills in engineering at the Lawrence Livermore Lab and later as a president of Electrofusin Corporation. Rusty considered himself a wealthy man thanks to his beloved wife, Elizabeth and his three adoring daughters, Laurie, Jaynee and JoDee. His wealth increased with his son-in-law, Mark and two grandchildren, Matthew and Claire Hodgkins. He is also survived by other family members (nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law) for whom he considered it a privilege to carry on family love and traditions. Many teachers and students at Kennedy Elementary School and Newark Memorial High School are grateful for Mr. Marcellin's tutoring in reading and math for the past 10 years. He was recognized by the Newark School district, the Alameda County Office of Education and the state of California for his outstanding contributions to learning and literacy. Rusty also filled his days building and flying radio controlled airplanes with the Bayside Radio Club. Rusty was a diehard A's fan - even during the early 1980's. After a long day, he enjoyed tending to his roses, many of which were "test roses" that he grew for Jackson Perkins. A memorial service will be held at Centerville Presbyterian Church, 4360 Central Avenue in Fremont on Wednesday, January 21, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Tri-City Young Life at 4360 Central Avenue, Suite D, Fremont. If you would like to support a literature program established in Rusty's name, you may send a donation to the Kennedy School Marcellin Library Fund, 35430 Blackburn, Newark. Each book purchased will contain a bookplate that bears Wayne Marcellin's name.

My memories of Mr Marcellin are from my childhood, specifically at Huntwood baptist Church- Mr Marcellin drove our church bus, and I remember him being enthusiastic to be near. Later when I got older, my family moved near the family in Newark and I always thought , even as a child, what a great Dad he must be. I was a childhood friend, sunday school pal of Jaynee- my deepest sympathy to all of you.
