Joseph Dean Garrett



Joseph Dean Garrett, 85, of Tallahassee, FL and Falls Church, Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9 at the Big Bend Hospice House. Son of James and Alice Garrett of Arlington, GA. He was born on February 2, 1927 and grew up in the Arlington area. At age 16, he entered Georgia Tech graduating in Electrical Engineering. He was recruited by Remmington Rend following college. Headquartered in Washington, DC, he traveled throughout the southeast. He ended his career as a Budget Director with the Veterans Administration. He married, Fay (now deceased), in 1953 and raised two daughters. Following his wife's lengthy illness and passing, he reconnected with his college sweetheart, Zula Ratcliff McLeod. They married in 2003 and shared 8 1/2 years together. He is survived by his wife, Zula Garrett, daughters - Karen (Richard) Barrett, Deana (Steve) Lee of Virginia, Dan (Luann) McLeod, Greg (Brenda) McLeod, Skye (David) Brown of Florida, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Falls Church church of Christ, Falls Church, Virginia on Tuesday, April 17 with internment at the National Memorial Cemetery. A local memorial will be held at a later date.
