Brian PERLEE Obituary

PERLEE, Brian Hungerford of St. Petersburg, Brian H. Perlee completed his life on June 19, 2014, in the very same way he lived it - at peace, at the side of his beloved wife, Donna, and with a quiet sense of dignity, stre-ngth, and courage. Born in Albany on June 21, 1951, Brian was the son of Gordon and Marcia Perlee. He graduated Guilderland Central High School and earned his MBA from SUNY Albany. Brian began his career with the New York State Comptroller, and served for many years as special deputy comptroller for New York City, where he played an integral role in bringing the city out of bankruptcy. He later served as director of the New York State Assembly Minority Ways and Means Committee, and served for several years as deputy commissioner of the New York State Department of Mental Health. Brian was blessed with an incredibly sharp and inquisitive mind and subtle sense of humor that he maintained until the very last. He was gifted as a craftsman - free-building exact scale replicas of buildings, aircraft, and boats. His patience knew no bounds. He took great pleasure in vintage cars - a Porsche, MG, and Jaguar and he found happiness and contentment at "Highlands", his family home in the Adirondacks. He loved his Florida bayside home and cruising with his wife and family. Above all else, Brian treasured his time with his wife, his children, grandchildren and extended family, and they, in turn, cherished the time they were to spend with him. It was a joy to be in his presence. Brian is survived by his wife, the former Donna Barner; his mother and father, Gordon and Marcia Perlee of Altamont; his children, Christopher of Albany, Daniel (Melissa) of Los Angeles, Jennifer of Scotch Plains, NJ; and his grandchildren, Max, Hazel and Darren. Brian is also survived by his brothers, Gordon (Erin) Perlee, David (Kathleen) Perlee and Jeffrey Perlee; and sisters, Lisa (Stephen) Puvogel and Suzanne (Kevin) Hale and several nieces and nephews and many friends. We would like to thank Florida Cancer Specialists for their wonderful caring and compassionate services, in particular Dr. Jeffrey Paonessa, Michelle Mintz, NP and all the wonderful nurses and staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Brian's name to the American Cancer Society. www.andersonmcqueen.com
