Harriett THOMPSON Obituary

THOMPSON, Harriett Sylvia (Langston) 87, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Mrs. Thompson was born in Tampa, Florida, but has lived in Montgomery since 1957. She started her career in Montgomery as a fashion model. Mrs. Thompson continued her career as a fashion coordinator, where she established the first charm school in Montgomery at Sears and Roebuck. She took great joy in teaching her charm school classes with ages ranging from eight years old to 17 years old. While doing this, she also had a daily talk show program in Montgomery called "Around and About with Harriett," which focused on local community activities and events. She continued her career in fashion by establishing the first teen fashion board at Pizitz department store when it first opened in downtown Montgomery. This teen board consisted of juniors and seniors from various high schools around Montgomery, who would model the current season fashions. Mrs Thompson also received her real estate license and was hostess to Montgomery's first "Talking House." It was quite a novel concept back in the early 70s as part of a marketing tool for new home sales. Along with her real estate career, she continued to stay in fashion retail until her retirement. In the middle of her careers, she also decided to attend Huntington College with studies in psychology. She always had a strong love for the medical field. One of her passions was a great love for animals and giving to various charities. She also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Biloxi where roulette and slots were her games of choice. You could not keep her away from a great show in Vegas since she had a love for all things musical and loved to dance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aimee Raymond of Moulins, France, a WWI bride who married her father, Lloyd Langston Sr., a soldier from Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd "Sonny" Langston Jr., Alfred "Skeeky" Langston, Paul Langston, Roger Langston and sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Goff. She is survived by her loving husband, Bertram "Boe" James Thompson; daughter, Karen Thompson Brown and husband Neil of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Daniel Lee Thompson and wife Lisa of Millbrook, Alabama; grandchildren, Joshua Chase Thompson, Daniel Lee Thompson Jr., and Reagan Hartley Owens; great grandchildren, Caidra Owens, Sawyer Crews Owens, Tee Cooper Owens; sister, Isabel Langston Cox of Tampa, Florida; and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. In lieu of remembrances the family ask that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in loving memory of Mrs. Thompson. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation for Mrs. Thompson on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117. A celebration of life will occur Friday, October 6, 2023 at 2 pm at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. An entombment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
