Neil Feldman Obituary
died Friday, June 21, 2019 at Tampa General Hospital after complications from open heart surgery. He was 76 years old and was born in the District of Columbia. After attending Washington University Medical School he entered the Air Force as a captain, and then completed his internship and residency at Harvard University. He was an assistant professor and head of the Brigham ICU for several years before moving to Florida and joining Palms of Pasadena hospital and opening his practice as a pulmonary physician. Many years later he opened the St. Petersburg Sleep Disorders Center in Pasadena. A highly respected health care provider, and friend to many, Dr. Feldman will be remembered as a staunch patient advocate who consistently challenged the medical profession to high ethical standards in the service of patients. He was an avid promoter of exercise, balanced with good nutrition, he enjoyed bike riding, hiking and always loved the outdoors. Dr. Feldman is survived by his sister, Myra Feldman; his brother-in-law, Jeff Roames, both of Scottsdale, AZ; his loving significant other, Dr. Olufunke Fontenot of St. Petersburg, FL; and his business partner of many years, Mary O'Brien, ARNP. Services will be held at Anderson McQueen, 2201 Dr. MLK St. N, St. Petersburg, FL from 9-11 am, on Tuesday, June 25. Please no flowers.

I was a patient of Dr. Feldman for 3 years while living in Florida. He was a great MD and a great guy!! I used to call him Larry as he reminded me of Larry David from Seinfield days. Best wishes to those who were a part of his life and fond memories of Dr. Feldman!!

So very sad to hear of Dr. Feldman's passing. He diagnosed my sleep apnea and I immediately had hope. His skill & intelligence & caring manner inspired confidence that I was getting the best of care. Dr. Feldman and I had a work relationship. In the time I knew him he was such a force to be reckoned with. He was a great sleep doctor who really put care into his patients well being and treatment and had a legacy behind him that will be hard to replicate. Dr. Feldman had one of the best personalities I have come across in life let alone the medical profession. He was a great help to me and he will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Feldman's famliy,friends and staff. He has been my sleep doctor for for several years now and always showed the upmost in knowledge,compassion and integrity;along with a keen sense of humor I have always enjoyed seeing all the artwork in the office from what I imagine was from Dr. Feldman's travels. My favorite is the pilated woodpecker above the reception area.Whenever I see a real one I will be thinking of Dr. Feldman.

Neil was a terrific doctor in all his works, He got me well, I had an asthma attack and he took good care of me, a terrific person and great sense of humor, he was MY Hippie Doctor. He would laugh when I spoke of him being a hippie. We would talk about stuff like that too. He also did some sleep apenea with me years ago, around the early part of the 1993's. He will be missed by those hearts he has touched. I was not sure if he was married but he talked only best of his partner she was good to him and he loved her so. I saw him a few weeks ago at Orgins I wanted to know which probiotic to buy he told me to get PB8 because of my ibs. Neil you were an asset to our community you touched everyones lives including me. I am so sorry you had so much pain and you went to see Jesus before all of us. You were blessed with love and compassionate friends. We love you Forever.

Bereft beyond belief. I've many fond memories of Neil when he entered Washington U Med School two years behind my husband. We spent many hours together and he was a gracious and dependable baby sitter. Later his dry sense of humor, commitment to his profession, love for life and straight talk endeared him to me more. Dr. Feldman once told me, when I asked him why he sometimes would work the RICU all day and then stay up all night conducting a sleep study, "I went into medicine to help people get better, and if I can't make them better, I can help them feel better". I spent the rest of my work life following this. Thanks you Dr. Feldman.

Dr. Feldman was a true humanitarian, backing his brilliant approaches for recovery and wellness by a truly caring heart and spirit. He made it fun discovering this about him once you got through the intensity required of him in his devotion to his patients. Working with him as an ICU nurse was a multileveled learning experience I have cherished for many years. He and Mary both instilled true pride in the medical profession in so many! I am Grateful to have worked with him and to have known such a kind hearted person.

I am shocked to hear about Dr. Feldman. I have been a patient for over 15 years. He was always friendly and seemed to genuinely have an interest in my well being. He once said I was in good shape for an "old lady" after he had previously told me that we were born the same year. I always thought he was in great shape. My condolences to the entire Feldman family.

Im shocked and saddened to lose my friend and client Dr. Feldman. I was his Interior Decorator. We had recently completed his condo and he was loving it and life... he had a great sense of humor ... I will never forget the times hed make some comment with a serious tone ... to which I responded with a look of surprise ... and then hed smile and say... Its a joke Madelyn; its a joke!
