Otis Davis Obituary

Davis, Otis Allen 86, of Tarpon Springs, died July 23, 2007, at Morton Plant Hospital under the care of Hospice. He was born Sept. 24, 1920, near Charleston, Ark., the third child born to Cleve and Emma Davis. He excelled at all sports, especially baseball. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinal organization in 1941. He was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers in the spring of 1946. Ironically, he injured his knee in his first major league game at Ebbets Field. Although his major league career was over, he found permanent happiness with Ann DiMambro of Rochester, N.Y., whom he married on Aug. 31, 1946. Otis worked at the Sybron Corp. in Rochester for 19 years and Eastman Kodak Co. for 14 years before retiring to Florida in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann; a son, Otis Jr., Tarpon Springs; granddaughters Tiffany and Krystal, both of Orlando; a brother, Richard, Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister, Beatrice Cauldwell, Fort Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Dear Otie -
I was so sorry to read of the passing of your dad. I always thought you had the most wonderful parents. Your mom and you are in my thoughts. It would be good to connect with you if you ever get back to the Rochester area.

Dear Odie and Family: I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your Father. He was one of the finest men I've known. In our conversations together, he always talked about the love of family and baseball.

We will all miss this kind and gentle friend.

Sincerely,
