Robert Dennis Obituary

DENNIS, Robert C. 93, of Land O'Lakes, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 30, 2010. Robert was born on Oct. 30, 1917 in Raven Rock, WV to Arthur and Susie A. (Davis) Dennis. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and was a faithful member of the South Livingston Church of Christ. Robert grew up in the Steubenville, OH and Weirton, WV, graduating from Follansbee WV High School in 1935. During WWII, Robert served in the United States Navy Submarine Service as a hydraulic specialist on the U.S.S. Requin. Upon his discharge, he returned to West Virginia and began a career with Weirton Steel. He retired from Weirton Steel after 35 years as a machinist and moved to Florida. He filled his retirement time by working at Soule Company for four years. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Aileen Virginia (Miller) Dennis; sisters, Ruth Fetty and Edith Shawver and brothers, Art Dennis and Gerald Dwayne Dennis. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Elizabeth Dennis; children, Robert E. Dennis of Bushnell, Ralph E. Dennis (Patty) of Harrisville, WV, Peggy Suffern (Donald) of Dover, Barbara Guilbault (Brian) of Calgary, Canada and James C. Smith of Tampa; sister, Janice Griffin and brother, Dale Dennis both of Weirton, WV. Robert had seven grand- children, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted 1 pm Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 in the Adams & Jennings Funeral Home Chapel, 6900 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa with evangelist Allan McNabb officiating and internment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4704 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa. Visitation will be from 68 pm today, Jan. 4, 20111 at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
