GEORGE W. POTTER George W. Potter, 71 went to be with the Lord April 13, 2011. Born in Jamaica/Long Island, New York, at the age of three his family moved to the Washington DC suburbs, where he attended Bethesda, Chevy Chase High school. It was there he found his love for music and was a member of the School Choir and the Football team. Upon graduation he attended Washington College in Southern Maryland and Michigan Tech. George decided he wanted to serve his country for which he had a great pride. After the Army he went to work for Sherwin Williams as Store Manager in Hillcrest Heights, and later Bethesda Maryland. It was there he met his wife Elizabeth. He then worked for Olney Paint & Wall-coverings as a Sales Rep, becoming the Area Manager. George went to work for Duron Paints & Wall- coverings from which he many years later retired. George was the go-to person for any technical information regarding paints, solvents and the industry in general. He lived and breathed the paint industry at which lead a very successful career. After retirement George and his wife moved to Vero Beach in which they have resided for twelve years. George kept busy by painting, singing and being active in his church, First Presbyterian of Sebastian, of which he was an Elder and on the Stewardship Committee. He was a former member of the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America and currently a member of the Treasure Coast Chorale. One of his greatest sanctity in life was to relax in his beach home at Nags Head, NC. You can list all of his interests and successes in life, but his greatest accomplishment was the pride of his family for which he loved dearly. He was proud of all of them and told them often. He loved his grand-children and great great-grandchildren. Besides the love for his wife and family, his Country, and his Church, all who knew him were so aware of the love of a good story and jokes. However singing and music is where he found peace. His deep caring ways and encouragement was the greatest gift his family and friends have and he is truly missed. We are saddened by his loss, however the Heaven's are blessed to have him join in the Angel's choir. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth; Sons John Humphries (Bonnie) of Frederick, MD, Ronald Humphries (Susan) of Laurel, MD, Lionel Humphries of Fairfax, VA, Karl Potter of Rockville, MD. Daughters; Tina Gibbins (Jerry) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Karen Johnson (Charles) of Vero Beach. Grandchildren, Doug, Melanie, Mark, Sam and Humprhries, Karl Potter, Jr., Ethan, Jacqueline & JP Gibbins, Diane Soriano, Jim, Brian Reher, and Olivia Johnson & 13 Great Grandchildren.
