Marita Powell Obituary

Marita B. Powell

Devoted mother and one tough cookie.

Marita was born April 21, 1954 in Istanbul, Turkey. For her entire life, she was an outgoing, positive, smart, strong-willed, courageous, loving woman with a golden heart. She was most happy when everyone around her was happy and well taken care of. Marita had a smile that stretched for miles, and her zest for life was utterly contagious. One of her best traits was her honesty and ability to tell someone exactly how it is. She was fearless and always gave 100% dedication when it came to getting something done, no matter the task. Marita clearly understood the value and meaning of life. She lived her 61 years at full speed, never holding anything back. The last few years of her life, she battled Stage Four cancer around the clock, and although cancer ended up winning the battle, Marita won the war. She passed away peacefully on October 4, 2015 with her family and friends by her side. Marita is survived by her sister Elizabeth Roux and her sons Justin and Adam Powell. A memorial service will be held at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home in Jupiter, Fla., Friday, October 9 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Stuart, Fla., on Saturday, October 10 at 10:30 am, followed by a celebration of Marita's life at Guanabanas in Jupiter, Fla., from 1-3 pm. Donations may be made in Marita's memory to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.aycockfuneralhome jupiter.com

To Marita's loving family. I am sorry I did not know Marita was ill. She and I go back many years but the last 15 we lost contact. I will always remember her and the boys with the fondest of memories. My son Richard always spoke so highly of Marita and enjoyed hanging with the "boys". She was a good friend, mother, and had a good heart. Life takes us and moves us around but what remains are those memories we will cherish. I am sadden to read this news and it just shows us life is fragile. We never want to lose those who leave a lasting imprint in our lives. Marita was that kind of special woman. To Justin and Adam, please find solace in knowing that you had a wonderful loving mother and she will be missed by all.

My sincerest condolences,
Ms. Adrienne S. Jenkins

What a wonderful person she was. She was fun, caring, inspirational, among other things...every time I saw her she was always positive. Marita will be missed deeply. And to her family, I am so very sorry for your loss.

There are no words my friend. I thought you would outlive us all. Your strength and honesty were immeasurable. When things got tough, you got tougher. You showed me that I could raise my kids on my own and they would be OK from your example. Justin and Adam are so gifted and wonderful. You were truly blessed. I, no we, will all miss you so Marita. You left more love than you could possibly imagine. Forever yours, Chica, Jimmy and Sabi.
