Patrick Halvorsen Obituary
17 years old
North Brookfield - Patrick D. Halvorsen, 17, of North Brookfield, fought the good fight and maintained dignity throughout his battle with glioblastoma. Patrick passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his devoted parents, Margaret and Michael.
Patrick was born in Worcester to his loving parents, Michael and Margaret (Coomey) Halvorsen; and was a loving brother to Petty Officer Third Class Christopher Halvorsen stationed with The US Navy in Hawaii. Beside his parents and brother, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, David and Patricia Halvorsen in Florida; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, William and Julia Coomey.
Patrick was currently in his junior year at Quabbin Regional High School, where he was active in the ROTC program. He loved collecting sneakers, attending concerts, and playing video games. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends.
Calling Hours for Patrick will be on Friday, February 5, from 4 p.m. until7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 6, at 10 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester (it is requested that people go directly to the church). Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
COVID protocols will be followed at the funeral home, church, and cemetery. These include social distancing and the use of face masks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick's memory may be made to Why Me and Sherry's House, by visiting www.whyme.org.

Meg and Mike I am so heartbroken to hear about Patrick. I remember him and Christopher coming to the nursing home to visit your Dad Bill. They were the most adorable little guys. I looked forward to seeing them whenever you brought them. I still miss you working there. I can't even imagine the pain your feeling. My name is Emily, and I was a classmate of Pat’s since middle school. He was such a bright and intelligent soul, and whenever he walked into a room, he made everybody smile with his optimism. It was hard to be upset or mad at him, because everybody who knew him, loved him. I’m keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Although I have never met you, I assure you that Patrick touched everybody’s hearts and made a positive impact on everybody he was around. He was loved by everybody at Quabbin. Unfortunately, I was only able to meet Patrick once, over a zoom call for Why Me Sherry’s in which we played the video game “Among Us”. But just from that one call I could tell that he was just a happy person. Someone who enjoyed being happy and making others feel the same way. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

My heart breaks for you & Chris. Words cannot adequately express the deep sorrow I feel for all of you.
Meeting you at my daughter Kristen’s wedding is a beautiful moment I will treasure. I enjoyed seeing how happy Zach & Patrick were, savoring the day and having so much fun. I remember you commenting on the beautiful boy framed in the front row along with Mario’s mom and I shared with you he is my beautiful firstborn, my son and best friend Jacob.
Our conversation that night will remain with me always. I could see the support you & Mike had in each other; how he admired your strength. What pulled on my heartstrings and took every part of my being not to cry is seeing the special bond Patrick has with you. The love he has for you is incredibly special. Walking up behind you, wrapping his arms around you, kissing your cheek and telling you, “I love you! You’re the greatest mom in the world!” His words sweetly spoken. I knew at that moment that I needed to just be but inside I was crying as I remember those words spoken to me.
Since that day I have checked in with Kristen to see how Patrick was feeling; keeping you all close in prayer. Every day that has followed, all of you have remained in my daily thoughts and prayers.
My heart is with you today & forevermore. May you feel God’s strong, comforting arms around you, catch your every tear and hold your shattered heart. May Patrick rest in the sweetest peace.
May these scriptures bring you a bit of comfort as you deeply mourn your beautiful sweet son.
