Prudence Wetherell

Prudence S. Wetherell WOODSTOCK, CT - Prudence Sheldon Wetherell, 59, passed away June 6, 2012 at home surrounded by her family after a 15 month battle with cancer. She was born March 9, 1953 in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Raymond W. Sheldon, Jr. and Bernice Waterhouse Sheldon. She lived in Dudley, MA until moving to Woodstock, CT in 1979. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, Prudy taught physical education for 33 years at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley and coached various sports teams. She retired in 2009. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Prudy enjoyed gardening, hiking, golf, going to the beach and nature. She was especially fond of her trips to visit several national parks. Surviving family members include her husband of 35 years, George A. Wetherell; her children, Kate Wetherell and fianc‚ Jack Varin of Easton, NH, and Ivy Wetherell and husband Lincoln Kamau of Brooklyn, CT; her grandson, Amani Kamau; her mother, Bernice Sheldon of Estero, FL; her brother, Bruce Sheldon and his wife Jody of Stamford, CT; two aunts, Jean Waterhouse McMillen and her husband Robert of San Mateo, CA and Phyllis Waterhouse Ellwell of Williamsburg, VA; and several cousins. She is also survived by a special friend, Albert Pilon of Concord, MA. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 2:00 PM at the East Woodstock Congregational Church, Dr. Pike Road, East Woodstock, CT followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private in Quasset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut, 320 Pomfret St., Putnam, CT 06260 or to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.
