Richard Direnzo Obituary
Worcester - Richard C. "Ricky" Direnzo, Jr. 48, of Worcester passed away unexpectedly in Worcester.
Ricky was born in Worcester on February 12, 1968. His father was the late, Richard C. Direnzo, Sr. He grew up and attended North High School. As a young man, Ricky worked for the family business, Direnzo Brothers Sand & Gravel. He then accepted a position with the Laborers Union Local 4, working for several area contractors over several years. Most recently Ricky has been house manager for Jeremiah's Inn in Worcester helping those less fortunate overcome life's challenges.
Richard is survived by his mother Paula (Devlin) Direnzo-Fenuccio and stepfather Joseph Fenuccio with whom he lived; his sister, Kimberly DiGioia and her husband Gino of Worcester, Brother Joseph Direnzo and his wife Kim of Stafford Springs CT; eight nieces and nephews; many other Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Ricky was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and taking pictures in the woods with his brother and father. He was an accomplished artist, enjoying just sitting and drawing for hours on end. Gardening, music, and the beach were also special. Ricky was a fun loving individual who loved to be around his cousins and family always clowning around and joking to put a smile on their faces. He will be missed.
Ricky's funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 4th at 11 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial remembrances in his name can be made to Jeremiah's Inn, 1059 Main St, Worcester, MA 01603. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.

You will always live in my heart, my brother. Such fond childhood memories I have of the 70s are because of your friendship. Whether it's the fun times we had as close friends growing up in faith, (catechism classes, 1st communion, confirmation), or in education at Rice Square school, Worcester East Middle,, or just hanging out at the stretch, even sharing the same friendships with kids all over the east side,, or playing little rascal style hockey games at the air plane field in winter time,, or eating autumn time crunchy apples at your house plus homemade cookies. All these are great examples of simple things from back then that we enjoyed together as friends I will never forget.
My thoughts and prayers are with Paula, Kim, Joe, extended family members and friends.

Ricky and I ruled the dance floor in kindergarten at Blithewood School. He knew how to dosie doe and was the John Travolta of our class in 1975 for square dancing. The simple days of learning to read then reading to learn, recess, classroom plays, Christmas pageants, being able to play into the dark without parents hovering. In a blink of an eye Rice Square, East Middle..adulthood48.

Ricky,may you rest in peace knowing you touched so many people and hearts. My memories of you is the love you always had for me and the love I always had for you, things didn't work out for us, but we always stayed best of friends, we talked often, saw eacother whenever possible we had many laughs with me and my kids. They grew up lucky enough to have you in there lives. The loved you as much as I did. You had real life conversation with Matt about your struggles and made him promise to follow the straight road. I love you for all that you ment in our lives, my heart breaks knowing I'll never get a bear hug from you or you still trying for us again. You will live in my heart forever till we meet again. My heart and prayers go out to your family and am so grateful that you made them my family too...for I love them all as much as you did. Ricky, I will miss you so much. I enjoyed our times at the movies, talking about Motorcycles...Canary yellow was your color...We had so many laughs and could talk about anything. I am so saddened by this tragic loss. Richie helped this alcoholic work through the 12 steps in AA. He helped explaining things by sharing his experiences. He was instrumental in my recovery.
