Rita A. Cronin, 91

WORCESTER - Rita Agnes Cronin, 91, of Worcester, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Hermitage of Worcester.

Rita was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael J. and Agnes (Londergan) Cronin. She lived in East Milton and Quincy before returning to Worcester.

Rita was a 1958 graduate of the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester. She received a bachelor of science degree from the Boston College School of Nursing in 1964. In 1975, she earned a master's degree in maternal and child health nursing from the Boston University School of Nursing.

Rita had a long career as a registered nurse in both clinical and educational settings. She began her nursing career at St. Vincent Hospital. Later, she worked with the Boston Visiting Nurse Association and at Massachusetts General Hospital and St. Margaret's Hospital in Dorchester.

Rita was an instructor in the nursing school and a supervisor of student nurses at Mass General for many years. She also taught nursing classes at Quinsigamond Community College, St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in Brighton and Laboure Junior College in Dorchester.

Rita lived for many years at St. Joseph's Home in Worcester and became an Associate of the Religious Sisters of Mercy. She leaves cousins Jane Healy, Thomas and Edward Londergan and Donna Fitzsimmons.

A calling hour will be held Tuesday, May 15, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
