Barbara Carreker Hartman

Franklin, TN

Barbara Carreker Hartman, age 78 of Franklin, passed away on September 21, 2015 after an extended battle with cancer at the Residence at Alive Hospice.

Barbara was born May 15, 1937 in Atlanta, GA, and was the daughter of Alvin and Margaret Carreker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Matthew Hartman, Sr. and her sister Beverly Carreker Hollis.

She is survived by her children, Lynda Hartman O'Donnell (Bill), Robert Matthew Hartman, Jr. (Carol); and her grandchildren, Ben O'Donnell and Sara Hartman.

She was a graduate of Forest Park High School in Atlanta, GA and worked for a mortgage banking company where she met and married Robert, the love of her life.

Barbara was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and friend to all she met. She was an avid baker, her specialty being homemade sour dough bread. She had a passion for quilting, winning numerous awards. She was a member of the Cumberland Valley Quilters Association and Ladies of Charity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to Alive Hospice of Nashville (www.alivehospice.org) and/or Gilda's Club Nashville (www.gildasclubnashville.org).

A Celebration of Life Service will be; 2 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville (615) 646-9292. www.afamilylegacy.com

Barbara and Robert were so nice--Barbara would really perk up when she talked about sewing. We had a good time in Tai Chi and at the World Day of Tai Chi we went to together. She showed me how to live without complaining!
