Carolyn Thoman Cox

Nashville - Carolyn Thoman Cox, age 98 of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, October 15th. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Frank Cox and parents Charles E. and Mary F. Thoman.

She was a graduate of East Nashville High School and following the death of her husband, was employed by Metro Public Schools as the secretary at Hillwood High School until her retirement in 1998.

Mrs. Cox was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer at Saint Thomas Hospital for a number of years following her retirement. All who knew her felt her love, were touched by her generosity, laughed at her humor and relished her special oatmeal cookies. Her greatest joy was seeing and hearing about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her strength of character and compassion for others were her greatest gifts.

She is survived by her four children, William Frank Cox (Anita), Carolyn Cox Perkins (Sam), Marion Cox (Dave), and Charles M. Cox (Tal), six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Following a private family burial, a gathering of family and friends will be held in the parlor of Westminster Presbyterian Church from 11:00 until 12:30 on Saturday, October 19th. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Her six grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the many kind and loving caregivers and staff of Park Manor Apartments and Alive Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Habitat Program at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee, 37205 or to the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Cox was the person who kept Hillwood going smoothly for so many years. She was always willing to help and laugh with us. Carolyn Cox was a special lady that touched many lives and cared about the students. All my love to the family; may your memories give you peace.

Carolyn and my Mother were the dearest of friends and Carolyn has always been like a second Mom to me. I will miss her stories and memories about their friendship . She was quick to laugh, had the best attitude about life and adored her loving family. Sending my sincerest condolences to Frank, Carolyn, Marion and Charlie and your families on the loss of your precious Mother. Give my Mom and Dad a hug in Heaven for me Carolyn. I will always love and remember you and treasure our friendship. Rest in peace sweet friend.
