Everett BURGNER Obituary

BURGNER, Everett E.Age 91, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 after a brief illness and stay at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Everett was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 25, 1918 and lived his entire life there before moving to Belmont Village Assisted Living in Nashville in 2009 to be near his son, Don Burgner. Everett was a graduate of Chattanooga High School in 1937 and attended the University of Chattanooga before marrying Gwendolyn Burns in September 1940. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Burgner, Sr. and Rhae (Caldwell), and brother, Lt. Colonel Robert Burgner. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Grant and husband Colonel A.G. Grant of Jacksonville, AR, Florence Lynch of Claxton, GA and sister-in-law, Charlotte Burgner of Chattanooga, TN; his son, Donald E. Burgner (Rita) of Nashville and daughter, Ann Burgner of Sun City, CA; four grandchildren, Debra Smith (Wayne), Michele Burgner, David Wilson (Elizabeth) of Nashville and Debbie Wilson of Atlanta, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Wayne Smith, Colin Everett Smith and Larkin Key Wilson. The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Belmont Village in Nashville. All caregivers were challenged at time by Everett's needs, but they all grew to love him and respond to him in ways that earned mutual respect for all parties. Alive Hospice of Nashville, and Dr. David Heusinkveld and staff also deserve recognition for the special "end of life" care Everett received. Everett's final "ultimate gift" was the donation of his body to Meharry Medical College for research and the education of medical students. Everett made these arrangements many years in advance and left specific instructions for family to carry out this last request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northside Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, TN. A special Memorial service will be held at Northside Presbyterian Church, 923 Mississippi Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37405 on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 3 p.m., to remember and celebrate Everett's life.
