Johnny, Jane, and Betsy
I am so sorry for your loss. I have cherished memories of John when you lived on Lock 4 Road. As a Cub Scout, we had our meeting in the cabin behind the house. The last time I saw your father, he was cooking turkey legs with Johnny at Rosemont and doing what he loved; saving our history. On behalf of both myself and my mother (and classmate of John's), Jean Beasley Templeton, please accept out deepest heart-felt sympathies.

So sorry to learn of John's death a week ago. I remember him most at Myra and Ed's home on Nashville pike with Betsy, Janie and Johnny as children. We all enjoyed that swimming pool at the 1164 Nashville Pike home. John was generous and kind. He was Houston's best friend since he was a teenager. My love and condolences, Suzanne Mason Glasgow

John was a historian, business leader and master woodworker, among other things. In the few times I met him, he was gracious and welcoming. I think John and his fellow historian, Walter Durham, occupied unique positions that will be greatly admired for years to come. My sincere condolences go to his family and close friends.

Dear Jane, Johnny and Betsy and family. My heart and prayers are with you all at this time. John was a remarkable man and personal friend. I will always remember him being among the first to welcome Kim and I to Gallatin some 50 years ago, and the many nice things he did both for us and Historic Cragfont. I will also treasure the hand made furniture he gave to me and my family. Indeed, he will be truly missed by all of Sumner County. Lowell Fayna, Gallatin, Tn.

John you welcomed me to the First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin. You supported me when I was a Elder. You are definitely a child of God. I will miss your handshake every Sunday morning. I am out of town and will not be able to attend your funeral. However, my heart will be with you. I will see you later my friend.

I have fond memories of Garrott Reunions hosted by John and June. My last specific memory of seeing him (if I'm not mistaken) was at the 2007 Reunion at Salem. Alice Garrott Hooker, 2nd daughter of Max and Dorothy Carver Garrott

Dear Betsy, Jane and Johnny,

Your parents and especially your Dad have always represented the bedrock of the Gallatin community. I so admired his civic concern, activities and heart. He represents all the best that the hospitable culture of our community hopes to project. He is a great loss to the Gallatin community and I send deepest condolences from the Hooper-Phillips families. May you find peace in this time of grief and loss.
