Marilyn Fisher Obituary

Dr. Marilyn Fisher, Ph.D.

Brentwood - Marilyn Margaret Fisher, Ph.D., 84, died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 9, 2019 in Brentwood, TN. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Fisher (Alexandra Nava), Julie Fisher (Kip Colegrove), and Laura Krakowiak (Theodore Krakowiak); and her grandchildren Alaina Krakowiak (Brian Feltus) and Parker Krakowiak. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Hazel Coultous, and her sister Jeanne Will.

Born in Buffalo, NY, Dr. Fisher graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School; earned education degrees from the State University of NY at Buffalo; and completed masters and doctorate degrees in literature from Canisius College and Indiana University of PA. She taught in Buffalo public schools and Erie Community College (North Campus). She moved to Lynchburg, VA where she taught at Central VA Community College, rising to Humanities Division Chair and winning the Outstanding Teaching Award of the South Atlantic Association of Departments of English. After retirement, she moved to Franklin, TN where she taught at Belmont University, O'More College of Design and Columbia State Community College. She authored scholarly papers, short stories, newspaper articles and the Connie Holt series of mystery novels. She once calculated that she had graded over 90,000 student papers. She was a gifted and caring teacher whose commitment to lifelong learning was an inspiration to all.

A private family service has been held. Interment at Elmlawn Memorial Park in Buffalo, NY will follow at a later date. Memorial donations: the Humane Society of the US, Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest or the Smithsonian Institution. Condolences: www.mmfisher.com. The family thanks the staff of Morning Pointe of Brentwood for their exceptional dedication and Willowbrook Hospice for their compassionate care.
