Homer Francis Bellot

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Homer Francis Bellot, 63, who passed away on April 26, 2012.

Homer Bellot passed away in his home on April 26, 2012. Homer Bellot, a resident of Lafayette was born to the late Homer F Bellot and late Marie L. Bellot on August 12, 1948. Homer was a graduate of Northside High School class of 1967. After graduation, Homer served his country in the Army as a SP 4 from 1968 to 1970.

Homer was a talented artist who used his creative talent working on various jobs throughout the years but was most recognized and remembered for his work involving Mardi Gras. He was well known for his artistic talent designing Mardi Gras gowns and costumes, backdrops, and medallions for various Krewes in the Lafayette area. The Krewes in which his talent is well embellished and remembered are, Attakapa, Rio, Bonaparte, Xanadu , Apollo, Victoria, R.O.U., and numerous others. The family would like to thank the captains and members of the Krews for their acknowledgements and support through the years and for their prayers in this time of need. He designed under a company run by Ted Viator for 17 years using his artistic talent for Mardi Gras and other events that will be well remembered for years to come. He will be greatly missed in this industry as his talent was one of a kind and special to all who had the opportunity to know and work with him. He also worked on Mardi Gras Association of Napoleon and Evangeline for several years. He also did work for the Washington D.C. Ball

Homer Bellot also used his talent to decorate for Tinsel and Treasure an annual function with the Jr. League in Lafayette.

Homer Bellot was a Native American and was a registered member of the United Houma Nation.

When Homer was not working he used his artistic talent in his beloved gardens. He loved landscaping and gardening and decorating for holidays. His time of relaxation was spent decorating his home and landscaping as well as cooking.

Homer is survived by his lifelong partner, Andre Arceneaux, Jr. of 27 years, his brothers, James J. Bellot and wife Sylvia Bellot of Mobile Alabama and Glen T. Bellot and his wife Evelyn Bellot of Cypress Texas and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Homer F Bellot and Marie L Bellot, and a sister Jo Ann Bellot Prejean.

The family requests that donations be made to the Homer Bellot Memorial Fund at any Iberia Bank location.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 10:00 am until the time of service in Lafayette.

I have fond memories of the Bellot family. They were our neighbors on Carlton Drive in the late 50s. Homer was about 10 and our children loved playing with him. He was very creative even then! Sounds like he had a great life. Keel on trucking' Homer! The Bulliard's.
