Robert Chastant Obituary
Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
Msgr. Richard Greene will be the Celebrant.
Dr. Chastant completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southwest Louisiana-Lafayette in 1972 before earning his dental degree at the Louisiana State University Dental College in 1976. Two years later, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Orthodontic Program in Philadelphia. Focusing on Orthodontics, Dr. Chastant practiced for over 30 years in Acadiana, having offices in New Iberia, Abbeville, and Morgan City. Having a true passion for serving his patients, Dr. Chastant was always attending continuing education courses and studying the latest techniques.
Dr. Chastant is a diplomat to the American Board of Orthodontics, an associate delegate to the American Board of Orthodontics, where he represents the Southwestern Division, and he is an Ormco Champion. In addition, Dr. Chastant is a past member of the Committee on Scientific Affairs for the Southwest Society of the American Association of Orthodontists, and received the 2010 Better Business Bureau Integrity Award.
A true Cajun, Dr. Chastant is an accomplished author, lecturer, and inventor. He was also known for donating bicycles to local students, sharing information on dental health and creating Kid ID, a program in which children's finger-prints and digital images are taken and filed for use if that child were to go missing. Among many things, Dr. Chastant enjoyed raising and showing Peruvian horses, in which he was awarded several championships.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie Futral Chastant of New Iberia; father, Harold Paul Chastant, M.D. of Lafayette; sons, Robert Brown Chastant, Jr. (USMC) of Oceanside, CA, William Chandler Chastant of Lafayette; daughters, Michelle Chastant Stark and husband Daniel of Monroe, Meagan Chastant Qualls and husband Trevor Qualls, D.C. of Southaven, MS; brothers, Harold Paul "Sonny" Chastant, Jr and wife Renee of Crowley, Bradley J. Chastant, M.D. and wife Mary Yvonne of Broussard, Paul T. Chastant, II, M.I.A., and wife Angela of Columbia, SC; sister, Mallory Paige D'Amor and husband Ralph D'Amor, M.D. of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Annelise Chastant, Londyn Chastant, and Evelyn Stark.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Ruth Brown Chastant.
Pallbearers will be Robert Chastant, Jr., William Chastant, Harold "Sonny" Chastant, Bradley Chastant, M.D., Paul Chastant, II, M.I.A., Trevor Qualls, D.C., Daniel Stark, Randy Gaspard, and Mike Malone, D.D.S.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.

We've known and been cared for by so many of Dr Harold Chastant's loving family members for oh so many years..My Grandfather Henry Bacque', uncle Fr. Albert [TBert] Bacque', mother Mabel Bacque' Bordeaux, brother Dr. Ferdie Bordeaux were all loved and cared for by your beautiful care-giving and healing family. How blessed and priviledged we are to know you'll. A donation has been sent on his behalf to the Discalced Carmelite Fathers in San Antonia for Masses. Fr. Henry Bordeaux our brother resides there at the Basilica of the Little Flower. Through the Communion of Saints we Believe and have Hope that we will Share and enjoy Robert again with God in the Home The Lord has prepared for us.

Dr. Chastain was a tremendous inspiration to many, many people whose lives he was able to touch and make a difference. We first met when I was in high school and my sister, brother and myself had braces on simultaneously. He instilled confidence and was one of the most caring, capable and personable Medical professionals I've ever encountered. Although I've moved to Lake Charles, my mother (Mary Broussard) who was nurse at Iberia General for over 30 yrs kept me abreast of his community service, etc. She shared w/ me her last personal encounter w/ him when she cared for him in the hospital (injured foot that occurred when saving his child). My mom then shared her story of losing her child that died -that she performed CPR on after a senseless car accident and did not make it... how blessed he was that he was able to save his child.
Many prayers and condolences to the family. What a terrible loss for the many people he served and impacted.
He will always be missed!!
